In 1987, at a time when Eliestoun’s future was at risk, Professor Charles Hosmer wrote a letter to college president John Boyman, which ended with words that echo as truthfully today as then.
“In short, it seems to me that we have here a building of great usefulness and importance. I may be blinded by my research opportunities to the cost factors that you and the trustees have to deal with. But when has Prin made a decision that would affect the cultural and historical life of students entirely on the basis of financial considerations? This house has given us a great deal, and I believe it can give a great deal more properly used and maintained.”
